History
NICKEL was created in 1996 by Philippe Dumont, a believer in a cause which is best phrased as follows: beauty can be a man’s concern! At the time, masculine beauty was uncharted territory. The first step was to create a venue for men to feel comfortable in and treat themselves to massages and actual beauty treatments, such as facial skin treatment, hair removal, manicure and pedicure.
This was the idea behind the first Nickel Spa for Men, which opened in Paris in 1996.
Masculine beauty then badly needed an injection of fun and whimsicality which is why Nickel developed a whole line of funky and in-your-face products, such as the famed Morning-After Rescue Gel, the magic wand for the hangover and a cult product to partygoers the world over.
Word of mouth quickly spread and in a matter of years, NICKEL was a serious to-be-reckoned-with player in skincare for men. In 1999, NICKEL opened the first beauty parlor for men within one of Paris’s major department stores, Printemps. In 2001, NICKEL opened its flagship spa in New York City with over 4,300 sq ft in the Meatpacking district and in 2006, NICKEL opened a spa in London’s Covent Garden.
In addition, NICKEL has successfully carved out shelf space for its products in perfumeries and department stores all over the world. The brand now features over twenty products which are marketed in over thirty countries, and many more will follow suit.
